The housing development at Crown Isle continues to progress at a rapid pace. New semi-custom and custom homes continue to be built and the 871-acre development is filling up with some of the best built and nicest looking homes in any subdivision in the Comox Valley. Last year a total of 36 single family homes were sold, of which four sold for more than $1 million. The latter figure is quite extraordinary because a total of only three sold above this price threshold in the prior 25 years. While some lots also became available and sold, they are becoming increasingly hard to find for sale in this high-end community.
One of the most common and desirable types of homes in Crown Isle is the rancher style with bonus rooms. This layout offers main floor living along with a few extra rooms separated by a floor that many people use to house guests and family members when they come out for a visit. Most of these homes offer an open concept living area with a great room often situated at the focal point of the main floor living space. Elaborate fireplaces and high-end trim are often made part of custom builds to increase the welcoming feeling one often gets when walking into these homes.
Increasingly we see more elaborate kitchens and high-quality appliances being incorporated to a main space attached to the central great room. Walk in pantries come with most of these homes and they offer convenience to those who enjoy cooking. Kitchen islands with space for stools and spaces for a separate dining area or two can also be found in many homes. Some of the more casual styles include breakfast nooks while others include formal and elegant dining rooms. Next in popularity to upgraded kitchens are nicely sized and appointed master bedrooms, large ensuite bathrooms and walk in closets. Office space, library nooks and even fully furnished home theatre rooms and wine cellars have been incorporated in some of the home builds in Crown Isle.
While a number of homes are located adjacent to golf course fairways and greens, most are not. The difference in price between these two locations can be significant even though the view varies considerably from one area to another. The vast number of homes offer Freehold ownership and some located in gated community areas are located on bare land strata properties. There are also some patio homes and more traditional condominiums in the complex.
Back when construction on Crown Isle first began in the early 1990s, the development was considered a bit remote from the rest of the City of Courtenay. Over the years, however, many amenities have been built up nearby that include the Crown Isle Plaza which is a shopping centre on the corner of Ryan Road and Lerwick Avenue. Also, nearby is the Comox Valley Aquatic Centre, Home Depot, Costco and the North Island Hospital that opened in the fall of 2017. As well, for those who like to fly to other cities the Comox Valley Airport is about a 5-minute drive away. Other development now borders much of Crown Isle which has become centrally located to most major elements of Courtenay East and the City of Courtenay.
